As I write this, it is only a few days until the LHS Class of 1964 will converge upon our own piece of Lubbock’s “sacred ground,” the halls of LHS.  Wow!!  After 50 years it will be great to see so many of you once again.  First of all, thanks so much to all of our Reunion Committee who have worked tirelessly with that Westerner spirit, determination and dedication to plan this get-together….I know this was no small small task…I can relate to all the time and effort you all have pooled together to pull this off (“Been there; done that!”)….Hats Off To You All!!  Your work is greatly appreciated!

Now, a little about my ”last 50 years.”  In Nov. of 1964 I married the handsome guy who stole my heart in the summer of 1963 and he still has a tight hold on it:  Roger Partain, LHS Class of ’62.  We left Lubbock and by way of Dallas moved to Houston in ’66 where we have raised 2 sons who now have families of their own.  Guess you can say that we just moved in and stayed....same home after 44 years.  We will celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary in November!  Wahoo!!!   Both of our sons are successful in the home building industry.  Alan, our first son who lives about 45 miles southwest of Houston, has two grown sons; Robb, our second son who lives in Canyon Lake – Central Texas, has 3 daughters.  Both of these “super-dads” are new grandparents – making me and Roger great-grandparents (Yes, Great Grandparents!!)  We have one cute-as-pie great-grand son and one gorgeously-beautiful great-granddaughter, and they both turned 1 year old this month - Sept.

I was diagnosed with a rare type of bone cancer in 1997; praise God, I am now cancer-free for 17 years!!  God has blessed and continues to bless me in more ways than this space or time allows me to share….I will simply put it this way:  I serve an awesome God, the Maker of the universe and all that is within it; He has changed me and continues to refine me each & every day and for that I am eternally grateful; all that I am or ever hope to be, I owe it all to Him.  I pray that with each passing day I am becoming more and more like Him.

In Dec. 2011 I retired from the Alief Independent School District after 31 years of service – the final 15 years I was the Operation Specialist for the district’s Technology Dept.  Although I was always very busy with many activities before retirement, my “after-retirement” days are equally filled (or even more than equally filled) with many activities such as working out at the gym, event planning, ringing hand-bells, singing in the choir and on the praise team at my church, gardening, decorating, reading, and BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) just to name a few – I often wonder how I ever had time to work.  Our grand-kids have also kept us running between football games, band concerts, dance competitions and shows…..Life is Wonderful…..and we are so blessed to experiences these time and events with the ones we love and cherish the most.

In closing, I look forward to seeing you all…..it is certainly reassuring to know that we’ll have name tags!

Praying God’s blessing on each of you,
Pat Tate Partain (nowadays, it’s Patsy)

Well, y'all, we're nearing that "55 year mile-marker"....how in the world can that be??  I'm so looking forward to seeing everyone in Sept.  There is one little glitch that might prevent my coming, however....we are building a new home near New Braunfels. If construction and closing cooperate, we plan to be in Lubbock for Reunion, But, if these two "elements" interfer to the point that we must stay in NB, well, what more can I say.  I'm praying really hard that good weather holds out and we can close BEFORE the middle or the end of Aug.....this will free us tocome to Lubbock for this momentous event.  Sure hope to see all of you in a few months!!!

An update:  Since our 50th Reunion, we're blessed to have 2 great-grand-daughters added to our family., and they are GREAT!  Izzyis is now 5; Ellie just turned 1.  What a joy and house full of fun they give us as often as our energy can handle them.  Fortunately, they live only about 30 minutes from us, so getting together is an easy arrangement.  Our youngest granddaughters are now 18 and 21, as of this June...both are gainfully employed, thank goodness, and we are enjoying watching them become beautiful women of faith. (Photos will be added soon.)

Ron and I are enjoying retirement!  We love the ocean and going to Maui and Kauai.  We love to snorkel!  We live near Galveston and go there when we need a quick ocean fix.  I went surfing in Galveston on my 70th birthday.

I look forward to seeing everyone in September!

Pipe Creek TX Librarian (Retired)
After graduating from Tech (where I met my wife Susan), I "volunteered" (lousy draft number) to be a payroll clerk in the Army (a year in the Mekong Delta, another at the Oakland Army Terminal ). I got my degree in library science in '72 from UT Austin (1 year ahead of Laura Bush), and spent most of my career with the San Bernardino County Library in Southern California (cataloger, branch manager, online catalog manager, web page development). I retired before my wife. When she retired in 2011 after a career as an elementary school teacher, we moved to the Hill Country NW of San Antonio (between Helotes and Bandera). My son, his wife, and my 3 grandsons and 1 granddaugher live in San Antonio. My hobbies include star gazing in dark country skies and playing viola in the University of the Incarnate Word community orchestra. We enjoyed the 50th reunion, but probably won't make it to #55.
