Swansboro NC Retired Dabbler kahlsdecoys.com Married 2
Wish I could be there to see all, but alas, the distance (1600 miles), travel time and cost by plane or auto, and animal (3 horses, 5 cats, and various backyard critters) care cost are prohibitive for a 2 day jaunt. We finally settled in eastern coastal NC in 2002 to be near the ocean and in the country, half way between George's family in SC and Northern VA for one son and a 12 hour drive to FL for the other son. I-95 sees a lot of Kahl traffic! Anyhoo, I hope you have a wonderful weekend and if anyone ventures this far East, give us a shout. The door is always open and sheets are always on the guest bed! P.S: "Then" picture is dance recital at age 3. Check out Lynn Snyder, Karol Kuykendall, etc! "Now" picture is me with George's mom age 94 and the 3 horses.

The pictures from the reunion or wonderful, and I am really sorry I couldn't attend! I know you all had a rollicking good time! Best wishes, good health, and lots of happiness for the next at least 20 years! Love to you all. ck

Houston TX retired Married 2
As I write this, it is only a few days until the LHS Class of 1964 will converge upon our own piece of Lubbock’s “sacred ground,” the halls of LHS.  Wow!!  After 50 years it will be great to see so many of you once again.  First of all, thanks so much to all of our Reunion Committee who have worked tirelessly with that Westerner spirit, determination and dedication to plan this get-together….I know this was no small small task…I can relate to all the time and effort you all have pooled together to pull this off (“Been there; done that!”)….Hats Off To You All!!  Your work is greatly appreciated!

Now, a little about my ”last 50 years.”  In Nov. of 1964 I married the handsome guy who stole my heart in the summer of 1963 and he still has a tight hold on it:  Roger Partain, LHS Class of ’62.  We left Lubbock and by way of Dallas moved to Houston in ’66 where we have raised 2 sons who now have families of their own.  Guess you can say that we just moved in and stayed....same home after 44 years.  We will celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary in November!  Wahoo!!!   Both of our sons are successful in the home building industry.  Alan, our first son who lives about 45 miles southwest of Houston, has two grown sons; Robb, our second son who lives in Canyon Lake – Central Texas, has 3 daughters.  Both of these “super-dads” are new grandparents – making me and Roger great-grandparents (Yes, Great Grandparents!!)  We have one cute-as-pie great-grand son and one gorgeously-beautiful great-granddaughter, and they both turned 1 year old this month - Sept.

I was diagnosed with a rare type of bone cancer in 1997; praise God, I am now cancer-free for 17 years!!  God has blessed and continues to bless me in more ways than this space or time allows me to share….I will simply put it this way:  I serve an awesome God, the Maker of the universe and all that is within it; He has changed me and continues to refine me each & every day and for that I am eternally grateful; all that I am or ever hope to be, I owe it all to Him.  I pray that with each passing day I am becoming more and more like Him.

In Dec. 2011 I retired from the Alief Independent School District after 31 years of service – the final 15 years I was the Operation Specialist for the district’s Technology Dept.  Although I was always very busy with many activities before retirement, my “after-retirement” days are equally filled (or even more than equally filled) with many activities such as working out at the gym, event planning, ringing hand-bells, singing in the choir and on the praise team at my church, gardening, decorating, reading, and BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) just to name a few – I often wonder how I ever had time to work.  Our grand-kids have also kept us running between football games, band concerts, dance competitions and shows…..Life is Wonderful…..and we are so blessed to experiences these time and events with the ones we love and cherish the most.

In closing, I look forward to seeing you all…..it is certainly reassuring to know that we’ll have name tags!

Praying God’s blessing on each of you,
Pat Tate Partain (nowadays, it’s Patsy)

Charlotte NC Nurse-Midwife Married 3
What a wonderful website and great planning for the reunion!  I am sorry I will not be there. I was in Lubbock for several weeks this summer before, during and after my mother's passing on July 4th. My father died in 1997.

I have lived in Charlotte, N.C., for the past 37 years.  After being a single mom for several years, I married Chuck Kelly, a writer and retired professor, in 1989, and we have been very happy.  2 of my children and 4 of my grandchildren live in Charlotte, and my youngest son and his wife and 2 [soon to be 3] daughters live in Atlantic Beach, FL.

I graduated from Randolph-Macon Woman's College in 1968 and became a high school Spanish and English teacher in the Washington, D.C. area for a couple of years. After the birth of my children, I went to nursing school and eventually became a Certified Nurse-Midwife.  I was privileged to attend many births at a hospital-run birth center until my retirement in 2001.  I now do volunteer work in women's health at a free clinic.

Mexico has been calling me for several years, and we have been able to visit often. We now have a little place in San Miguel de Allende where we hope to spend a few months each year.  I have become involved with a school for midwives there.

Best wishes to you all!

Lubbock TX Retired Firefighter Married 4
Life is such a blessing.  I have been blessed with a wonderful wife, Linda (Hester, LHS ’66) for over 41 years, four children and three grandchildren.  After a brief time in Vietnam (courtesy of the U.S. Navy), I spent 33 years as a firefighter, half of that time as a chief officer.  Although I have a BBA in accounting and a MBA in management, I never wanted to leave the fire service.  I like to tell young people that it is such a rewarding career, “where else can you help people when they really need it and get paid for it?”

I now stay busy with church activities as a ministry leader, class leader, and life group leader at Monterey Church of Christ.  Linda and I live just south of town on two acres and raise a large garden during the summer.  We love to go to our place near Cloudcroft when time permits.  The rest of you with grandchildren know what I mean by having the time to go. Ha.

Looking forward to seeing you at the reunion.  Forgive me in advance if I don’t recognize you, but that is probably true for the most of us.  It will be like meeting new friends from our past.

Lubbock TX retired teacher/ library assistant Married 3
Hi everyone!  I am looking forward to seeing you soon.  It is hard to believe it has actually been 50 years--- "old" people have 50th reunions, not us!

In view of the fact that Robby and I will celebrate a 50th wedding anniversary next year, I better get used to the idea.

The last 50 years have produced 3 children, 4 grandchildren (#5 is due in January), and 2 great-grandchildren.  Oldest grandaughter is 24, youngest grandson is 9 mos.  Great-grandson is 3, and great-grandaughter is 9 mos.

I taught at Ouachita Christian High School in Monroe, Louisiana, during the time that Robby was the principal there, and at Lubbock Christian High School after we returned to Lubbock. In 2011, I retired from the library at Lubbock Christian University.

West Lafayette IN Professor Emeritus, Purdue University Married 2
After graduating from Texas Tech, Claudia and I departed for graduate school at Iowa State University. We spent 4 years in Iowa. Boy it was cold, but we had a great time! I received my MS and PhD and Claudia her MA during that time. For those of you who are computer junkies, while at ISU I took the first statistics course taught in the US where a computer was used to crunch our numbers to solve class problems. The big-as-a-house computer of that day did not have the computing capabilities of the laptop I now carry around. Wow!

I spent 31years at Purdue University as a Professor of Entomology in the College of Agriculture. I was involved in national and international research, outreach activities, and graduate teaching. I directed the graduate work of both MS and PhD students in the US, Europe, Central America, Africa, and China. I never thought it possible for an ole boy brought up in Lubbock, Texas, to see the world, but I was able to travel to and conduct research and outreach activities in 60+ countries.

I retired in 2003 and was named Professor Emeritus. This title gets you office space, free campus parking, and continued use of your accounts, as well as some respect. Ha! The Dean asked me to teach a course for 3 years after my retirement and that was lots of fun since I had no reports to fill out, committees to attend, or students to advise. Shortly thereafter, an Italian colleague and I developed a project in NW Italy. I have spent the past 10 summers there and will return in 2015.

After 10 years of marriage, Claudia and I found the time to have our first child, Cecily, and 4 years later Celeste.  They are both married to great guys and we have 4 grandsons (2-10 year-olds and 2-5 year-olds). Cecily is a Purdue Food Science graduate and is in R&D at Oscar Mayer (Kraft Foods). Celeste graduated from Purdue in Sales and Sales Management and is a sales professional at Pulte/Centex Homes in the Chicago Region (Centex started in Texas, as some of you probably know).

I will not be able to attend the reunion, but is great to reconnect through the LHS reunion site! For those who do attend, have a great time! Also, many thanks to all involved in putting the reunion together!

Married 2
Saw my little car in a museum this summer and it brought back lots of memories. How many did we get in it back in LHS days? Seems strange but those days don´t seem long ago! I am looking forward to the reunion and will be travelling from Madrid, Spain. My family, husband of 41 years, son and daughter, and two granddaughters all live in Spain for the time being.  After directing a study abroad program for Tulane University for almost 25 years, I retired and became a partner in farm management with one brother, which can be done thanks to internet banking and email. I can keep up with the area via an interesting website: www.whyilovewesttexas.com.  See you soon. Congratulations to all those who have organized the reunion. The web page is the best!

Arlington TX quality inspector aircraft Married 4
Hey Guys--- 50 YEARS--REALLY How can that be.  Have not felt old or limited until a few health setbacks occured within the last 5 years. Nov 2nd 2009 standing in our RV at NASCAR races when a 50 cal bullet traveled 4 miles coming through the roof and struck me in my right upper arm, missing artries, muscles, and nerves. Destroyed the bone. A miracle  came my way that day due to just inches to the left would have killed me. Six months later had extensive knee bone graft to repair the arm.  Really did not slow me down, as of April 2014 have 28 years at Vought Aircraft as a Quality Inspector. We have inspected the B-1, B-2 Bomber, C-17 Cargo, Gulfstream, 757 and 747 commercial planes. B-1 days worked mandatory 10 hr/7day weeks for 4 years to produce 100 planes. Challenge for sure but being young and able got us through it.

My husband, Mel Moss, as well worked in Quality and now is retired. Mel and I have been married 32 years residing in Arlington, Texas. We each have a son and daughter. My daughter Kim is a mammo/biopsy tech at a leading Breast Center in Ft Worth. Due to her awareness of a follow-up test (sonogram) not being performed by another facility, she voiced a strong call to come to her facility. Test results=Breast Cancer as of March. She saved my life.  We have 10 amazing grandkids, 30 to 5 years in age.  For sure we are blessed to be close to be able to be a part of their activities and lives.

Mel and I have had a wonderful fun filled life together, sailing and RVing. Hopefully next year will retire so we can travel more and enjoy the time God has allowed us to have.  Can't wait to see everyone.  Safe travels to all.

Austin TX Widowed 1
After 2.5 yrs at Tech, I graduated UT Austin and drifted and enjoyed myself and others. I moved to a farm in Virginia and bought a cow. After a few years I moved to southern Calif and got serious in a job. I've worked in human resources and risk management for the last 25 years.  I married my one and only husband Rick when I was 38. We left CA & moved to Austin, seeking a better environment for rearing our daughter, who is now 24. My mother lives nearby at the age of 92, and I try to take care of her.  Rick died last year. What I am trying to do is--figure out life, and especially figure out life without my true love. I'm still a Baptist. In the church plot this year I am raising okra, tomatoes, beans and corn. I have many wonderful and weird memories of LHS days. Sue Malaise's red lipstick. Praying the center would make his grades so he could play on Friday. Fred Akard wearing his shoes out from training so hard at Chapman Field. Coach McGuire organizing a girls track team, not sponsored by the school and long before Title VII, and taking us to Aspermont to compete in the mist. The star, Mary Carl Rose (please find her, somebody), Don Henry, Mike James and I fishing in Mackenzie Park. The pep rally shaking the building like a Nazi gathering. Miss Sullivan throwing hexes on the loudspeaker when it interrupted class. Gudrun Lindskog. The smell of the homemade rolls.  The tyranny of the demerit.  Gens Togata.  See you soon.  Send BARBARA a MessageSend BARBARA a Message

I had a tour in Vietnam '69 & '70 in the Navy CB's. Attended Tech and in 1971 started my own construction business. I've been in construction ever since. I have two sons and four grandsons all living in the Dallas area.  What fun it is to attend my grandsons' (ages 4-11) sports events & watch my sons coach their teams.

I have lived in some beautiful places -- Albuquerque, Colorado and most recently the Western area of North Carolina. I have lived in Frisco for 3 years with my wife Fran,  (Jones, '65 LHS) and we just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. I have two step daughters, two grown grandsons and two great granddaughters. I'm  much too young to have done this much in 50 years!
